Troubleshooting of Cummins Generator coolant circulation

The radiator fins are blocked or damaged. If the cooling fan does not work or the radiator fin is blocked, the temperature of the coolant cannot be lowered, and the heat sink is rusted, which leads to coolant leakage and poor circulation.

Water pump failure. Check whether the water pump is running well. If it is found that the transmission gear shaft of the water pump is worn too long, it means that the water pump has failed and needs to be replaced in order to circulate normally.

Thermostat failure. The thermostat is installed in the engine’s combustion chamber to control the temperature of the combustion chamber. If there is no thermostat, the coolant will not circulate, and it will alarm for gas hardening and low temperature.

The air mixed in the cooling system causes pipeline blockage, and damage to the intake valve and exhaust valve on the expansion tank will also directly affect the circulation. Regularly check whether the pressure value meets the requirements, the inlet pressure is 10KPa, and the exhaust pressure is 40KPa. In addition, the smooth flow of the exhaust pipe is also an important factor affecting circulation.

Various parts of the generator will occur by complex chemical and physical changes with oil, cooling water, diesel, air, etc. Unexpected failure may occur after long-term use. When analyzing the high temperature failure of the coolant, the first thing to consider is whether the cooling water is added according to the regulations. Second, consider whether the system has leaks and dirt, whether the radiator is blocked, and then check whether the belt is loose or broken. After excluding above reasons, consider whether the water pump, thermostat and fan clutch are damaged. The cooling cycle and radiator failures of Cummins generators are relatively simple and easy to repair.
